The History of Precision Sport Frame Technologies, LLC

By Rick L. Wilson   Director, Sr. Engineer

I would carry my tomato crate to school for 3rd grade show & tell.  Demonstrating magnetism, electric motors, the
electric light, and so forth.  These demonstrations expanded to the whole school and were performed in the gymnasium.
All the way into high school I would do my best to convince my teachers to allow me to convert my regular school
assignments into something to do with electronics.  I even went as far as repairing school property for free to gain favor
in this endeavor.  Needless to say, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t.  A group of teachers aware of my thirst for knowledge even pitched in their own money so that I was able to attend one semester at United Electronic Institute (UEI), now known as ITT Technical Inst.  Starting at about age 15, I was repairing electronic devices all over our small town.  Most of these items were old tube TVs, audio amplifiers, automobile radios and ignition systems.  Just about anything was game, and all for $20.00 plus parts.  At age 19, I decided to relocate to Jacksonville, Florida.  In talking to the owner of a car stereo shop, and convincing him he needed to service what he sold, I was hired as a car stereo repair technician.  After a couple of years there, I again needed to expand my knowledge base, so I took a position as a technician with a company that had repair contracts with several consumer electronics manufactures including the 3 major U.S. car companies.  During my time there I designed and produced kits to convert automobile instrument clusters from analog to digital to be sold under my own company name.  After 5 years of service to this firm, I needed to stretch my
entrepreneurial wings some more.  I partnered with a gentleman who just moved to Florida, also from the mid-west, and
wanted to start an electronic repair business.  In our first year we had acquired all the contracts that were held by my
previous employer.  In our third year, Ford Motor Co. rated us #1 in the nation for quality and customer service.
With over 500 car dealerships in 6 states being serviced by our shop, my partner moved downstate to command another
office with an employee base of over 240.  Over the next 15 years and in addition to the position of general manager of the Jacksonville division, I designed, fabricated, and serviced a myriad of electronic and electro-mechanical devices for a host of other companies.  In our 18th year however we were notified that the products we have been servicing, were to become “pitch items” and were no longer to be repaired.
Focusing on my true loves, aviation; electronics; and things mechanical, and utilizing the experience gleaned from building and piloting many of my own experimental aircraft.  I decided to provide a service that encompasses all that I’m very passionate about.  Hence the birth of Precision Sport Frame Technologies.

Armed with the knowledge gained from years of work with everything from hospital intensive care monitoring systems, to the design & manufacture of light sport aircraft, we are here to serve your electronic and electro-mechanical design, fabrication, parts and service needs.
